Seventh Seal

I think I want to become a Navy Seal.  I had been toying with this idea even before the remarkable expedition to get Osama Bin Ladin.  But their success last week along with the accompanying  accolades has sealed the deal for me.  Oh, I know that I may be a bit beyond the ideal age for this kind of work and maybe the training is really, really rigorous but still, I would love to be a part of an elite team…any team.

Apparently, the Seal teams are numbered, with unit 6 being the creme de la creme.  I’m not sure how it works, but Units 1-5 and 7-10 are  less creme.  Seems like a strange grading system to me.  Maybe it’s supposed to keep everyone in the dark.  Even so, I think I’d only be interested in joining Unit 6; nowadays, these guys are especially beloved–not a bad word to be found about them.  Kind of like firefighters but without all the cooking.  Which actually, would be a really, really good fit for me, seeing that I don’t cook (or even eat) much.

I realize making the grade for the premier unit would be a long shot. So maybe I should lower my sights just a bit.  I suppose I’d be willing to join a team close to Unit 6.   Unit 5 sounds intriguing.  And 7 would probably be fine–except I’m worried that part of the training would include sitting through that damn movie again.

Where's the SCUBA gear?
