Un Menage a Trois

I had a dream the other night that I was making love with to Julia Child.  But now that I think about it, it was Julie Powell, not Julia Child that  I was having sex with.  Actually, it was the actress who plays Julie Powell in the movie, Julie and  Julia….Amy Adams, that I was in bed with.   Whew! I feel a lot better about  that dream then I did just a  little while ago.

I recently saw Julie and Julia  which obviously inspired my dream.  I thought it  was a terrific, fun film.  But there was one part that I found very troubling.  Julie Powell is a blogger who by virtue of her interest in Julia Child and writing  about her year of cooking Julia’s recipes, gets discovered, becomes famous and lives happily ever after .  (The last part I made up.)  As you may have noticed……I’m a blogger also.  But, I’m at a severe disadvantage in the blogging world because I don’t have a dominant theme.  Although I’m really interested in politics, I think that there are more than enough political blogs out there.  And Julie Powell’s blog is, as many are,  centered around cooking.   As you probably know, I don’t cook.  I barely eat.

So, lacking a central theme has made it way more difficult for me to get discovered.  Although my  reach  has extended somewhat beyond what it was when I started five months ago,  still, no calls from the Times, The New Yorker or even my relatives.   I probably shouldn’t be so negative.  Actually, this week I reached a milestone.  My blog has a counter which tells me how many people have gone on my site…..rather, more precisely, how many times my site has been visited.  And I just hit the 5,000 mark.  I’ll save you the trouble of writing….it doesn’t include my own visits. (the number then would be something with many, many zeroes).

At any rate, I was upset by that thread in the movie.  It’s one thing to not have your dreams fulfilled….it’s quite another to have the fulfillment of  someone else’s similar dream thrown in your face on a giant screen.  So, I’m reaching out once again to those of you who are reading my blog.  PLEASE, if you’re not too embarrassed, forward it to your friends…or even to people you don’t  much care for.  I’m only one person and  there’s only so much self-promoting I can do. (Although apparently, I haven’t reached that limit.) Think of this as a pledge  drive but  without  the Doo Wop groups or Peter Paul and Mary.   It’s entirely possible,  if things work out, you might be the proud recipient of an Iron(ic)man Triathlon tote bag.

You’re one of my famous and fabulous links!: Think of it as forever fashion week in the food world: “food porn daily”, “dorie greenspan”, “david lebovitz”, “my kugelhopf” and thous. Mother means mother.
